The department offers a French Major and Minor.
All majors spend at least one semester studying abroad; other students are also encouraged to take advantage of Gettysburg College's Study Abroad opportunity.
Life seems to surprise us the most when we already made our own plans. Gettysburg College was my last college visit of the summer as a rising senior. I was burnt out from other college visits and ready to enjoy that last week before school, but I was signed up for a tour at this school that was recommended to me by a member of my church. When I woke up that summer morning, I didn’t know what I was in for.
Caroline Ferraris-Besso joined the Department of French at Gettysburg College in fall 2015. She will be working with colleagues in the Department to expand course offerings in 19thand 20th century literature and culture.
Caroline received her licence, maîtrise and master’s degrees in French literature from the Université de Savoie. She complemented her studies with coursework in contemporary European culture in the School of Modern Languages at the University of Exeter (UK). She then came to the United States to pursue doctoral work in the Department of Romance Studies at Cornell University, where she completed her Ph.D. in 2012.
