        IT Browser Statement

You may use any browser that you want but there is no guarantee that any one browser will work well with all applications on campus.

You may want to check our recommended browsers page for information about which systems support what browsers.

        Common Myths and Questions

Myth: IT only supports Internet Explorer - False +

While IT-provided computers come pre-loaded with either Internet Explorer & Firefox (Windows) or Safari & Firefox (Mac), you are free to install any other browser you want to!

Please contact the IT Helpdesk if you need an alternate browser installed on a computer for which you do not have administrator access, such as a classroom computer.

Question: Can there be more than one default browser on a PC or MAC? No +

Most current systems, whether a desktop computer, your laptop, or even your phone or tablet can only ever have one default program set to handle web browsing, email, and other forms of accessing the web.

This does not mean that you can't have other browsers installed. On the contrary, you can have as many as you want! But clicking links from other software (email programs, links in documents, etc.) will open only in the default browser.

Find instructions on how to change your default browser.

Myth: My favorite browser will work for every site - False +

Unfortunately, while many web developers have worked to make sure their web sites work in every browser and every device, the reality is that most don't work well everywhere. Whether that means something just doesn't look right or it doesn't work at all, almost all web sites and web-accessible systems have issues with some browser or device.

Myth: Browsers that work well on a PC or Mac will work on a mobile device - False +

Mobile browsers tend to have different features and functionality from their non-mobile counterparts, and this can affect the way they handle web sites you try to visit. Similar to the myth about your favorite browser working for every site, mobile browsers may have issues depending on what site you visit.
